Yep, It’s Four Years Till Sochi

Regular readers will have noticed my lack of enthusiasm for the beginning of this year’s figure skating season. I was ready for it all to begin in September, but was reminded watching Skate Canada and Skate America that it is indeed four years till Sochi. That means many new, young faces and the start of an intensive skill building four years.

After following the Olympic Games so closely in February and watching that pack of skaters grow and mature in time for Vancouver, it’s frankly been a bit disappointing as a fan to start again at the beginning of this quadrennial.

It’s certainly not the skaters’ fault! A young, inexperienced team today will be honed over the next years. Part of the joy will be watching these skaters mature and improve; and we’ll enjoy getting to know all the personalities along the way. It will just take a few competitions to get used to the idea that we’re in a rebuilding phase.

I’ll have to be patient.
