Dube and Davison Get the 2010 Green Light

dubedavidson2.jpgI admit it, I’m a homer. I want Canadians to do well at Worlds in Sweden. But, even with lofty hopes for our team I wouldn’t have bet on a podium finish for Dube and Davison. Are they peaking too soon, with 2010 still two years off?

I don’t think so. Yesterday’s bronze at the World Figure Skating Championships in Sweden is a confidence booster. It’s a clear message that the judges like their style, their programs and their elements. They are officially on the radar. Now… with just two years to go to 2010 there’s plenty of work to do: increase speed, polish elements and work on consistency to name a few. But, this weekend Dube and Davison showed they’ve got it in them, and that’s a very good sign.

I’ll say. I was expecting them to crack the top five this year, after the short I knew that they could reach the podium but even then I had my doubts. Still, after seeing their program I knew that there was no way that they wouldn’t get on the podium. I’m so excited for the next two skating seasons. They can definatly climb to the top in the next two years like Jamie and David did. All they need is a triple twist and side-by-side triple jumps and we will be seeing a lot of pair’s medals coming our way…and who knows they could very well win Olympic Gold in 2010…. we’ll just have to cross our fingers I guess.

I thought Dube and Davison had the best program of all. I thought the Germans stoic and the Chinese uninspiring. Jessica and Bryce showed some heart out there and I was really impressed! The Candians in general were on point in Sweden!
