An Ode to Kurt Browning

Kurt Browning in Peter PanAt first I thought Kurt Browning starring in an off-ice, modern-day Peter Pan production was weird. But, I’ve changed my mind. Now, I think it’s rather groovy. Most World Champions go from the amateur ranks to ice shows, to coaching, to choreography. They never leave the skating world. Or, they hang up the blades the day after the big win because they can’t face another minute on the ice.

Kurt Browning is an exceptional ex-World Champion (x4). He’s still a very exciting skater. Here’s a video clip of Browning pushing creative boundaries after turning pro with an original score by the Tragically Hip. He lands a quad, something you never see in a pro event. He also choreographs for the likes of Alissa Czisney and Brian Joubert.

So, why not try theatre? He’s always been a performer–remember Casablanca? Why wouldn’t he do a great job without the blades? Kudos to Kurt!
