A Small House at Canadians
What's happened to the figure skating fans? While watching the skating this week it was clear there were plenty of empty seats at the Metro Centre in Halifax. According to TSN, the 5700-seat arena had more than 1,000 empty seats on closing day. Earlier this year at Skate Canada in Victoria there were also empty seats, evern for the men's and ladies' long programs.
It can't be the price. Tickets for Canadians cost only $170 for the entire week-long event. All event tickets for Skate Canada started at $130. My guess is that figure skating still hasn't recovered from the Salt Lake scandal when fans all around the world gave up on the sport. Let's hope the success of the new scoring system as well as the 2010 hype will bring fans back to the rink!
