Ladies Deliver in Turin
The women demonstrated tremendous athleticism and artistry in the short program in Turin. I had high expectations for the women’s event and so far the skaters have not disappointed.
Sadly, the same can’t be said for the men. The last two seasons have been a display of inconsistent jumping, off-ice theatrics and lack-luster performances.
While watching Emanuel Sandhu unravel in his Olympic long program I couldn’t help but wonder why the men have gone so soft? Is it poor training? No mental toughness? Too much emphasis on picking up points and not enough on laying down a solid skate? Whatever the cause, watching Johnny Weir practically make up his program as he went along and having to sit through Sandhu’s meltdown was tedious, even for a dedicated fan.
